| Bonjour I recently came across this attributed medal from the Second Empire with an inverted suspension device. It has been suggested it may have been struck early on a Monday morning? Is this a common error, or is this truly a rare find? Regards, D |

| Hello I like these medals even in this state because they are unique and resercheable. Here is one other which lost the suspension and who comes from the great collection of your Mentor Mr Sylvester jr Ugly but I believe that it was one of its rarest item. I am proud and honored that he agreed to sell it to me before entrusting the rest of his collection to a trader. Regards. Cuss |

| Hi Cuss: Hope you are having a good day. John left me alone in his beautiful home with his collection one day to photograph it for him. He joked for years to ome that he couldn't find some of his most precious pieces. It was just a joke. John's father and his grandfather were both Admirals. He still has some incredibly rare material from the early 1900s. Like you I was able to round out my collection in several areas before the "butchers" took his material away. Unfortunately, someone got to the Medal of the Nung before me. I served as an advisor to a Nung Strike Team and all of their material has very special meaning to me even from the French Indochine experience. In time, I will share some of my badges/patches with the Forum. Your friend, D |

| Hello Dragonmaster This life-saving medal is unusual. It was repaired. The suspensions of a large number of the 27mm issues between the 1840s and the late 1890s when the Roty type was introduced were quite weak. They would often be repaired or strengthened with low temperature welding material. This one was definitely strengthened in a radical maner. I cannot remember seeing an other one quite like that. As Cussonneau writes, they are traceable. Yours seems to have been thoroughly worn, hence the breaking off. Best regards Vétéran |

| Bonsoir Veteran: So you think this is an inverted repair job as opposed to a "mint mistake?" It makes some sense that an unskilled repairman would put the suspension on upside down. Still, it is so strange looking and unusual. By the way, I just got some excellent Indochine images from a Belgian source. They made me extremely happy. :mdrrr2: Best regards, D :zorro1: :aurevoir: |

| Hello, It’s a small world! “Asinus, asinum fricat” The golden medal Nung Federation come from Mr Sylvester collection… Medal to sergeant (caï) Nguyen van Thanh is contemporary of the struggle in Vinh-Long, Tra-Vinh and Sac-Trang, that had burst out between February 13th and 24th 1872 in Cochinchina, whose veterans have been awarded with the colonial medal - bar Cochinchine - by decree of June 30th 1906. Surprisingly, a second sergeant of the native militia of Cochinchina - Thoi van Nhien - had been awarded with the military medal. (Decree: ministry of the Navy and Colonies, July 25th 1872). | Hello,
Thank you Cussoneau and Dragonmaster for making it possible for me to finally see a Nung Territory medal "live". This ethnic group has been precious to the French and later the Americans - they were redoutable fighters ! The study of their badges is fascinating and I eagerly await Dragonmaster's scans of the US era; I'll modestly add my French badges to them.

| Bonjour Alban: I will get the scans and then open a new subject "NUNG" I spent 30 months with my Nungs and I was never disappointed in their ferocity. J'obtiendrai les balayages et puis ouvrirai un nouveau sujet "NUNG" J'ai passé 30 mois avec mon Nungs et je n'ai été jamais déçu dans leur férocité. Respect, D. |
