This very fine officer model of the Order of the Dragon of Annam, which was missing the rosette when acquired, was made by Lactinhvien, 31 Quai de la Susse, Hue, Annam during the French Colonial period. It comes to me from the collection of my mentor, John Sylvester, Jr.

Thank you for showing this good badge made by an unknown (to me) manufacturer. Quite an revelatation.
John Silvester and I have exchanged letters and information for a very long time, decades ago. Some of the pieces in my own collection have been mentioned in his first book.
I heard from him, a few months ago, that he had sold his own collection. John is, as far as I know, the finest authority on "Indochinese" awards and a very fine gentleman.

Please show us this good item .
First of all there is an error because the photo of the dragoon does not correspond to the badge.
Especially it is not a production Lactinhvien;
For these former badges Lactinhvien firm bought in France and sold them then with the added silver plate on reverse.
Your badge is a manufacturing from Paris Lemaitre firm.
I have the same badge with a hallmark "LEMAITRE ET FILS" circa 1925.

Later Lactinhvien has local but poor quality production in bronze silver plated.

One of the characteristic of lemaitre badges manufacture is the particular red spot on the head of the dragon.




All are from LEMAITRE firm , last have LACTINHVIEN silver back plate.

The close-up photo of the Dragon was from a Knight's Badge, This one is from Sylvester's Officer badge. The photos were mixed up. It looks very much like your Boulanger badge.

Did Lactinhvien just change the plates on the reverse of other maker's badges?

Good question;
Three crosses that I saw signed LAC... were all manufacturings lemaitre.
But I also have a royal order of Cambodia signs LAC... in my collection not at home.
I have to verify.

Another Dragon d'Annam, with the signing of a salesman from Alger, so perhaps not the maker of it :

This medal was for sale on Ebay.fr (closed yesterday evening), I never had seen another with this mark...

Yes Cuss, a good item with a rare signing, and a consequently price : 455 euros.
I find in all one's things an old catalogue (without date) from the maker Lemaitre, with beautiful illustrations of the Dragon d'Annam order :

I am very sorry I cannot answer you because I have just put under key my dragons of Annam.
Your cross ( I possess two copies) is magnificent and old.
It is normal that the dragon look paint and to my opinion was that it's one of the most attractive model for this order.

Just to put this folder up, and to gain progress in identification of all these very beautiful Dragoon of Annam Order's insignias.... I've got the chance to find this knight insignia today:

There is a only one mark on the suspension ring, but really unreadible! As this type seems to be different, particularly in the design of the enameled dragoon, and because of its fine making (in silver, with small holes all around the cross and really superb enamels), I suppose it is probably a french made medal...
Does someone have an idea about the manufacturer and approximate datation?

Just to try to identify the different types and manufacturers of crosses of this order, let me submitt to your appreciation this officer cross:

It is made in goldened silver, and has a manufacturer mark on the suspension ring, but unreadible...

Does someone have and idea about a possible manufacturer and datation...
