Bonjour a tous,

This time I need help identifying a cross in this Finnish soldiers chest. This Colonel served first in the Russian Army as a Leutenant and participated the Spain-Morocco War in 1860. Later on he served Maximilian I in Mexico.

There is a story about him in the net: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waldemar_Becker

There is some information about his decorations and here is a list of them: (First 4 awarded during his service in Morocco)

1. Spanish Knight’s Cross of the Order of Saint Ferdinand (Which model was used in 1860??)

2. Spanish Medal of the Order of Saint Ferdinand (I have not found any information of this medal??)

3. Spanish Medal of War in Africa (Morocco)
4 . Spanish Grand Cross of the Order of the Military Merit (text in a diploma: orden del merito military III el Don Alfonso XIII, 29. V. 18 (ochorientor noventa y trezpar la reina regente)

5. French Medal of the Mexico Campaign

6. Mexican Medal of Military Merit bronze class (la medalla de bronze del merito militar)

7. Officer’s Cross of the Order of the Notre Dame de Guadaloupe

8. Knight’s Cross of the Mexican Eagle, class unknown

9. Commander of the Order of Danilo I of Montenegro

My main question is, what is the large cross in his chest separately from the other medals? Can it be number 4 in the list and does anyone have any better picture?

Cordialement, Harri.
