Hi,

Could someone give me some idea about how to identify World War 1 period French Legion of Honour medals please.

I confess to getting quite confused and there is so little in English in the way of reference books to help.

Thanks

Jim

Hello Tunneler

Unfortunately, you just cannot.... Badges of that period are strickly identical to those worn by all other recipients, from 1871 until the mid-fifties.

In other words that will cover most of the Franco-Prussian war, all WW1 & WW2 as well as those for excellent military services both at home and in the Empire. You will have to add all the awards for outstanding civilian services for over 80 years.

Certainly several hundred thousands, possibly over a million.

You might just as well forget the idea. Sorry about that !

Hi Tunneller

Veteran is right. However, one can observe the quality of the crosses awarded before an during WW1 are far better than after.
The good news is that the prices of these very well manufactured crosses are still very low regarding the quality.
