Bonjour a tous, Is anyone able to show me a scan or photo of insignes du rang basse visibilite de tenue de combat pour legionnaire, caporal and caporal-chef, all of Legion Etrangere. I believe they differ from other units and I haven't seen a proper photo yet. The difference propably is because some units have both professionals and conscripts among them meaning certain ranks with extra stripe because service continuing after the legal period of conscription (ADL = apres duree legale and PDL = pendant duree legale). Am I right or wrong? I just want to clarify this as in some cases some dealers (or collectors) do not know what they are selling for, this especially with foreign, non-French, dealers naturally, which I sometimes had to rely on before I joined the forum. Therefore I propably have some rank patches in my collection that do not belong in there as he theme is Legion. Bien Amicalement, Harri

Hi Harri Nowadays there are no conscripts or draftees in the French Army. All are professionals. But you are right, the Foreign Legion kept some differences : For the Officers, no differences with the 'regular' Army For the NCOs, the badge of 'sergent' doesn't exist for the Foreign Legion, only the double one 'Sergent BSTAT', the single chevron is not worn. For the enlisted, it is the same of the 'regular' Army in the table shown below, but without the first thin black bar and the "caporal-chef CT1 / CAT2" doesn't exist in the Foreign Legion : I hope to be helpful and clear... Yours Bison

| Hello Bison and thank you very much. Your explanation cleared he whole thing for me. So far the confusing thing in deed was that single chevron sergeant and the "extra thin line". Now it's clear and Harri is a happy boy . Sometimes I face problems like this but I concider me being lucky to found the forum and being able to get answers solving my problems like this one. Cordialement, Harri

Hi You are welcome. Happy to give you a pass to the barcode! And, worth to be mentioned, many soldiers in French Army do not know this kind of details... Thank you for looking at this! Yours Bison

Merci Bison for your most flattering words . Believe me I really have studied. As being non francophone it's been a long road especially as there was no one to ask help for. There are not too many collectors specialised in Franch material. I know none in Finland. Bien Amicalement, Harri.
