Bonjour a tous,

I have seen in photos some members of the 3 REI wearing the Brazilian Jungle School brevet (embroidered badge, silver thread jaguar head in a shield between two wreaths) and title SELVA (possibly metal, white letters on beige backround) in their uniform sleeve. Are they allowed to wear the metal version of the badge? Which other Brazilian Jungla School insignias they possibly wear?
Which other non-French insignias legionnaires are allowed to wear in their uniforms?

Cordialement, Harri.

Bonjour and thanks to Fred and Slayer 29 for their kind answers.
I would really appreciate if someone could provide a photo of all possible Brazilian Jungle School insignias that are used by French soldiers.
Also of any other "foreign" qualification insignias used by legionnaires. I know that they are awarded some parawings, especially European ones. I have seen them using (in photos) at least German and Italian Italian jumpwings after the award ceremony of combined rehearsal, but obviously they are not allowed to use these wings after that. So could use any piece of information, which other insignias of other countries are used? Also I know that they are allowed to use the German Sportsbadge as a medal.
Salutation, Harri.

Hello Harri,

Sorry, I havn't the photo you're looking for.
By the way, about para wings, I already have seen worn on French military chests Thai and US para wings, Dutch, Belgium para wings and more frequently Slovak, Czech and Polish para wings.
I send you these 2 scans, from the same French soldier. One is his German para wing diploma and the other one is his Dutch para wing diploma.
Best regards,
Zeb.

Hi
Officers and NCO of the 3 REI are going to MANAOS in order to serve after as instructor in the 3REI jungle school (CEFE). But some others could also go in other south american jungle or special forces school (Venezuela, Equateur,Colombie,Surinam...), and they are wearing the shoulder patch (CAZADOR, CONDOR, SELVA , TIGRE.....)

Best regards

I will try to find some photos for you....

Bonjour for all and especially for Raider30 coucou1 .
Thank you very much for your answer. I really would like to see photos of legionnaires or sous-officiers wearing those insignias you mentioned, or even just the insignias. So far my most reliable source has been Kebi Blanc magazine and although a great journal, insignias (or medals) are not a main issuen in it Sad . So far I only have seen a photo of a sergent (3REI) wearing the SELVA shoulder title (metal I think) hein6 .

Cordialement, Harri.

Hi Harry
Single Légionnaire could not go to such training. Only OFFICERS and NCO. But it happens that a complet platoon could go to a single training in a south american country.
For CAZADOR stage in VENEZUELLA, there is a shoulder patch and a metal badge...
Here you can see a CAZADOR shoulder patch

Best regards

Hi Harry

Looking for more informations, I found in magazine KEPI BLANC n° 639 P. 48 and 49 (december 2002) an article about the jungle stages in south american countries. And there is a photo from a NCO with 2 shoulder’s badges (SELVA Ecuador, TIGRE).
Most of the time, the shoulder badges can be tissue or metal made.

Best regards.

Bonjour again,
and tahousand thanks to captainbop and Raider30 for most needed information and photos. Just what I have been hunting for years. I had seen the last photo in KB but I mistakenly thought those SELVA and TIGRE titles were Brazilian ones.
If you or anyone else has pictures of those other insinias mentioned in the message of Raider30 (colombie, Surinam etc.), please remember that I would like to see them.

Hi Harry
Here you can see 2 different badges of the LANCERO stage in COLOMBIA (3 months)
1) metal badge
2) tissu badge for combat jacket (the NCO put it for me on his arm only for the photo). Sorry the picture is not very good.

If I found other badges of south american special stages (jungle, special forces...), I contact you one more time.
Best regards.

I noticed in the KB magazine 708, page 12, that there seems to be a new version of the Brasilian Jungle School brevet worn on right side a chest instead of sleeve hein6 . Seems to be embroidered (or bevo) white on green oval backround. Does anyone have a proper photo to show us the latest design?

Hi Harri

Le chef de bataillon on the photo was in MANAOS in 1997. His brevet is not a new one.
It is always the same metal badge. And the tissu badge is also te same.

You can wear the Manaos brevet with the oval background or not.

Merci Raider30 for valuable information.
I didn't know about the oval backround, so I thought it is completely new insignia.

Is it just any green piece of oval cloth or felt????
Is there some sort of an official version to be worn with the metal badge?
Are there official instruction about the size of the backround?
Do Brazilians wear it with or without the backround oval?

Cordialement, Harri.

I couldn't answer you completly today. I will try to know if there is other color background. I think it is only a single piece of cloth.
In France, I think also that there is no rules about the wearing of this background.

So it is difficult to ask them to sell their own badges.

Only someone of the 3 REI can help you.

Hi Harri.
I've got some news for you. An officer coming back from the 3 REI gave me some informations.

The back patch of the brasilian jungle school brevet is always green.
But the border can be gold (instructor) or black (monitor).

Most of the french officers and NCOS wear the brevet patch on the shoulder. And most of the others didn't use the back patch when they are wearing the metal brevet.

Best regards.

Hi Harri,
At the time I was in Guyana (86-88) only two officers who went to the jungle in Brazil stage 1 of the 3rd REI and 1 of the 9th and BIMA this year. I had the chance to review with an officer who was stationed in Martinique and who returned the "stage of cons guerillas" in Colombia he wore over his patent paratrooper, but little red badge on the photos that I still I can not tell the reason. This other information on these patents abroad wore French.

Hi Harry

Somthing new : you can find a scan of Manaos metal badge back patch.
The officer who let me scan his back patch, tell me that the only différence between a monitor or instructor badge is the colour of the metal badge (gold = instructor ; silver = monitor). The back patch is always the same.
