I would like to know if soldiers of the French Korean Batallion were entitled for US Korean War Service medal? Did they receive any US Purple Hearts?

Hello Harri,

None French soldiers get the US Korea medal. In facts, French members of the "Bataillon de Corée" get the French Commemorative Korea medal, the UN "Corée" medal and the ROK Commemorative Korea medal.
I also never heard that French woundeds were getting Purple Hearts. I'm just sure that they were getting the French wounded medal (a red star).
The only US medals awarded to French UN soldiers were bronze stars for troopers and NCO's and silver stars for officers.

I continue with the subject as I don't have enough information about it yet.
Just read (with my skill in French language it cannot be considered reading, but you know what I mean) an article Le Bataillon Francaise le Corée 1950-53 by Mark Bruschi from La Gazette des Uniformes. There is a mention that the 3 Cie consisted of "...les parachutistes et legionnaires".

Does anyone know the amount of legionnaires volunteering for this bataillon?
Where they mainly of French origin or did they accept also foreigners?

This subject is not mentioned in any of my Legion history books, neither in French or English language.
