Bonjour a tous, I have noticed that French soldiers are widely using current German Sportadge ribbon version as a medal in their uniforms. When French started using this badge? Are they doing the physical requirements for this badge under German supervision or how is it earned? Cordialement, Harri.

Bonjour a tous, As nobody has answered to my previous question so far concerning the mentioned subject, I try again. So howcome French soldiers are using German Sports Badge in ribbon as German soldiers wear it only as a breast badge? Where do they earn it or has it something to do with service in Ex-Yogoslavia? Are foreign insignias in general well tolerated by French dress regulations or is it a choice of individual? Greetings, Harri.

Hello Harri , Just give us some delays for answering you... Concerning the "Deutshes Sportabzeichen", it is in fact a german award for both civilian and military people. French troops in germany during exchanges with german units use to perform sport together and to be awarded this medal (and others). In the german army, it is suited with ribbon or in full size insignia as a breast badge, but is considered as a medal. So, french awarded ones can ask the great chancellor of the Legion of Honor to gain the right to wear this medal. As the use in france is to wear medal under a ribbon, makers (both german and french) created a medal for foreign use... As soon as you have the right to wear it, it is no more considered as a badge but as a medal. Concerning your second question, in France, foreign badges are forbidden in uniform dresses, but you can wear them in case of wishing to honour foreign visitors... Best regards ,

Hello Harri And I would like to add that in the French-German Brigade, french soldiers are allowed to wear the german badges and awards. It is common in this brigade to exchange training and enabling. Therefore, they obtain the badges and awards in fulfilling the same requirements... as a sort of interoperability, let's say. Yours Bison

Thanks to Marcel and Bison for answers. This is another subject I have researched already sometime, but hadn't find any answer. Does anyone know the name of the French manufacturer or are the markets open for all manufacturers. Greetings, Harri.

Hello Harri , Sorry for answering late, once again... There are several manufacturers in France, and no monopoly for this medal, particularly in Paris A.M.Stuart and Bacqueville. You'll find after the Stuart model: Bacqueville's one is very similar for the medal, but has a suspension ring in one piece. Best regards ,
