MessageSujet: Question about Kolwezi Cross,   Jeu 28 Fév - 23:10

Hello,

I am jut courious to know who manufactured the original crosses and golden "out-cut" clasps? And who has manufactured the replacement crosses sold by maitre-tailleurs? I have two replacement items and there are no markings or symbols. Got the first one from a Finnish legionnaire that participated the operation and he also sold me the original award document.

Regards.

Hi Harry coucou2 ,
See here :
http://www.forum-insignes-medailles.net/vos-medailles-f7/kolwezi-t6908.htm
You can see many models showed by Alban. Only the cross with number "41" is an original one. On the cross numbered "39", the bar is different. I think it's an excellent reference document.
I don't know who are the makers of all these models, but perhaps there is only one, and just bars are differents ?
Best regards,

Hello !
as far as I know, all the crosses are the same : those gived by President Mobutu, those I acquired in Calvi at regimental PX and on "maitre-tailleur" office.
Bars are different : original one in gold, copy in gilted metal, rectangular bronze one.
Harri, was your Finnish legionnaire and Kolwezi veteran in the 2e REP / M.P. detachment ?
Regards
Alban

Hello,
as far as I know there were four Finnish legionnaires in Kolwezi operation and my certificate is not of MP caporal-chef Peters. I think it is okay to use his Legion name here as he has published already 3 books here in Finland of his 28 year career in service of France. He has also been interwiewed by several magazines, newspapers and national TV.
The last book is of Kolwezi operation.
Bestt regards,

Hi again and thanks to Contoutos and Alban for their answers, but there is still one question left. Is the miniature version manufactured in France and if yes, by whom?

Hello Harri,
Yes the miniature was ordered by a French collector,ex-Adjudant-Chef in 35e Abn Artillery Rgt, I don't remember the French factor .
He told me at time that some veterans need these miniature for their spencer dress.
They were made only on a subscription basis , I think less that 100.
Thanks for the phone to Peter's friend.
